The real history of the autos begins in 1769, once the steam engined was created. In 1807, François Isaac designed for the first time one car powered by an internal combustion engine witch was running on fuel gas, a combination between hydrogen and oxygen. which led to the introduction of the modern gasoline fueled internal combustion engine in 1885.

German inventor Karl Benz in the year of 1886, build the first modern automobile, called Motorwagen. The early history of the wheels can be easy divided into a number of eras, based on the prevalent means of their propulsion. Later on, starting with 20th Century periods were divided by trends, that meand the exterior styling, body size, and their utility preferences.

The first series production of automobiles was made by Karl Benz in the year 1888 in Germany. There were numerous other manufacturers, including tricycle builders Rudolf Egg, Edward Butler, and Léon Bollée who used a 650 cc engine By the year 1900, series production of automobiles had begun in the United States and France.

The first motor car in Central Europe was produced by Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau,later renamed to Tatra, in 1897. The first company formed to build automobiles was Panhard et Levassor in France, which introduced for the first time the four-cylinder engine. It was formed in 1889, Panhard was followed by Peugeot two years later. Starting with the 20th century, the automobile industry was beginning to take off in Western Europe, especially in France, where 30,204 was produced in 1903, representing about 48.8% of world cars production in that year.
Legally, most countries have they own rules for the definition of "wheels" for purposes such as antique vehicle registration.
